How We Got Started

The Foundation was founded by Rafael "Ray" Nieves after he suffered a heart attack and had life-saving surgery at the University of Maryland. Family members, including his wife, Carolyn, mother, Mirta and father, Rafael, as well as friends, began by donating funds and educational equipment to the hospital, in 1998.

I support this tournament because it is a good cause and basically 100% of the monies go to support children with heart problems. I have enjoyed the event for ten years and will continue to be a part of it.

Thanks to Dr. Cartirelli our 9 year old grandson has been able to strive at life due to having open heart surgery at 5 months old.
